There’s plenty to admire in the iPhone X straight from the unboxing. The biggest change stares you in the face: that screen, that screen. I love the larger displays of the iPhone Plus line and Android units like Google’s Pixel 2 XL, but the phones are too frickin’ big. They are bulky in my pocket, and making calls is like holding a frying pan to your cheek. The iPhone X is a big screen in a compact form factor—Cinerama in a phone booth.

The 10th anniversary iPhone goes to Disneyland
Disneyland is a vacation spot that has you using your iPhone like crazy every day. You take pictures, you look up directions, you use it for ticketing and FastPasses for rides. It’s hot and you’re distracted, and if you have kids you’re trying to keep them alive and in proximity while keeping them fed and hydrated enough to actually have fun on vacation. If a character walks by you need to be able to flip your phone up, shoo your kid over to them so they pause for a minute and be able to nail that in-focus shot.

iPhone X Review: Face the Future
I personally think the iPhone 4 is the most beautiful phone of all time, and I’d say the iPhone X is in third place in the iPhone rankings after that phone and the original model. It’s a huge step up from the surfboard design we’ve been living with since the iPhone 6, but it definitely lacks the character of Apple’s finest work. And… it has that notch.

Apple needed to redesign iOS 11 to fit the new parameters of the iPhone X. Everything, even the spacing between apps on the homescreen, needed adjustments. While I was using the iPhone X this past week, things on screen didn’t always look quite right.

Apple’s iPhone X is the beginning of something new
The photos I collected with the iPhone X were just as good and in some cases better than I could achieve with the iPhone 8 Plus. When compared to images captured with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Google Pixel, it was more of a tossup. I contend that Apple still does a better job of capturing natural colors, but some said my images were too cool and preferred the color saturation of the Note 8. To my eyes, the iPhone X produces colors that are closest to real life.

Der erste Tag mit dem iPhone X
Wirklich randlos ist das neue Apple-Display aber nicht. Ein paar Millimeter Rand bleiben an allen vier Seiten übrig. Damit unterscheidet es sich beispielsweise von Samsungs Galaxy Note 8, dessen Bildschirm tatsächlich ein Stück weit um den Rand herum reicht. Dennoch reicht auch die Bauweise des iPhone X aus, das Gehäuse insgesamt deutlich kleiner zu machen als bei anderen iPhones.

iPhone 8 Plus und iPhone X sind technisch weitestgehend identisch. Die Gemeinsamkeiten: A11-Bionic-Prozessor, kabellose Ladefunktion und Ausstattung mit Mobilfunktechnik, Bluetooth und WLAN sowie geschützt vor Staub und Spritzwasser. Die Unterschiede sind fein. So verfügen beide Kameras beim iPhone X über eine aufwendigere optische Bildstabilisierung und das Teleobjektiv ist etwas licht-stärker.

Das iPhone X ist jedenfalls nach Apple Watch (2014) und iPad (2010) mal wieder ein bedeutsames Produkte, das als Game-Changer durchgehen kann, denn in Face ID steckt exakt die Technik, die Microsoft mit dem eingestellten Kinect-System jetzt ausmustert.
