Der Swift Open Source-Code ist über GitHub verfügbar und bietet Unterstützung für alle Apple Software-Plattformen — iOS, OS X, watchOS und tvOS — und auch für Linux. Verfügbare Komponenten beinhalten Swift Compiler, Debugger, Standard Library, Foundation Libraries, Package Manager und REPL. Swift ist unter der bekannten Apache 2.0 Open Source-Lizenz mit einer Runtime Library Exception lizenziert, was Nutzern dabei hilft, Swift auf einfache Weise in ihre eigene Software zu integrieren und die Sprache auf neue Plattformen zu portieren. Wer allerdings Apps über den Mac-App-Store und den App Store anbieten möchte, muss seine Anwendung mit der Version von Swift erstellen, die bei Apple Xcode enthalten ist.
