Viva Palestina. Gestern (16.3) ging’s mal wieder zu einem Konzert, auf das ich mich schon länger gefreut und auch vorbereitet hatte: Idles. Ich bezeichne es als wütenden Post-Punk-Rock, obwohl die Band selbst nicht in diese Schublade gesteckt werden möchte. Und ja, sie passt auch nicht hinein. Die ruhigeren Stücke der neuen Alben Crawler (2021) und Tangk (2024) bezeugen musikalische Reife und mehr Tiefe als die herausgeschrieene Wut in Brutalism (2016) und Joy as an Act of Resistance (2018). Letztere brachte mich 2019 in Verbindung mit den Idles. Die Konzert-Reihe bei Arte zeigte die Release-Party von Joy as an Act of Resistance [Repost bei YouTube]. Und da war so viel Spaß und Wut, Kraft und Freude. Ich denke, es heißt Energie. Diese Energie wollte ich live erleben und ich habe sie gestern in der Alsterdorfer Sporthalle gespürt. Knapp über zwei Stunden pure Kraft nach Vorne.
Überschattet allerdings von – wie ich finde – unbedarften Solidaritätsbekundungen wie Viva Palestina gleich zu Beginn des Konzertes und wenig später für die – wörtlich: fine people of Palestina und zum Ende mit der Aufforderung zum Waffenstillstand [ceasefire now] im Abklang von Rottweiler.
Kurzum, politisch würde ein Waffenstillstand jetzt nur der Hamas helfen, sich neu zu organisieren. Nach meinem Dafürhalten gehören auch die Geiseln des 7. Oktober zu den finest people of Palestina. Von einer Band, die in brutalen Drums und Riffs an die leisen Zwischentöne von Achtsamkeit und Aufmerksamkeit mahnt, hätte ich ein bisschen mehr Reflexion erwartet. Denn Palestina kann nur Leben, wenn Israel lebt: Am Yisrael Chai.
English Text. Yesterday (16 March) I went to a venue that I had been looking forward to and preparing for for a while: Idles. I describe their music as angry post-punk rock, although the band themselves does not want to be categorised as such. And yes, they don’t fit in either. The quieter tracks on the new albums Crawler and Tangk testify to musical maturity and more depth than the screamed-out rage in Brutalism (2016) and Joy as an Act of Resistance (2018). The latter connected me with them in 2019. Arte Television broadcasted the release party of Joy as an Act of Resistance in their concert series [repost on YouTube]. And there was so much fun and anger, power and joy. It’s called energy. I wanted to experience that energy and I feeled it at Alsterdorfer Sporthalle: two hours straigth up.
Overshadowed, well done, by – in my opinion – thoughtless expressions of solidarity such as „Viva Palestina“ right at the beginning of the concert and a little later for the – literally: „fine people of Palestine“ and at the end with the call for a ceasefire in the fade-out of Rottweiler, the last song of the show.
In short, politically, a ceasefire would only help Hamas to reorganise. In my opinion, the hostages of 7 October also belong to the finest people of Palestine. I would have expected a little more reflection from a band that uses brutal drums and riffs to remind us of the quiet nuances of mindfulness and attention. Palestine can only live if Israel lives: Am Yisrael Chai.
